QuickCam Pro is not just a great way to keep in touch with friends and relatives over long distances, it is a comprehensive solution for creating an automatic Web cam, creating Web pages featuring your own stills and videos, making live video calls over the Internet, sending video e-mail, setting up a digital surveillance system, and taking instant snapshots. The device plugs into the USB port of your PC and can capture images and video at 160 x 120, 320 x 240 and 640 x 480 resolutions. The software bundle includes MGI VideoWave II and PhotoSuite II. A 10 second video at 160 x 120 resolution occupies about 685 KB of disk space in the standard AVI format, while a 320 x 240 video takes over 1.59 MB, both managing about 30 frames per second. A video at 640 x 480 misses out on frames completely, going as low as 3 fps.
